About Us

White Oak Natural Resource Services, LLC is a forest management consulting company formed in 1997 by Tom and Ken Nygren with the principal focus to manage their family’s forest land. In 2010, the opportunity to become Technical Service Providers for the Natural Resource Conservation Service in forestry provided the chance to begin working with other family landowners throughout Northwest Oregon writing forest stewardship plans.

In January of 2014, following his retirement from active military service with the Oregon National Guard, Ken began expanding the scope of work and size of the business. As it has grown, the business has expanded to include forest habitat restoration, riparian rehabilitation, afforestation, timber cruising and appraisals, timber trespass assessment, pre-commercial thinning, reforestation, and vegetation management.

Our four-person small business consists of individuals who love helping others and have a passion for silviculture. This team has over 100 years of forest industry experience. All of them continually study and stay abreast of forestry issues and concerns. Our desire is to help others along the path of responsible, rewarding, woodland management serving a diverse clientele.

What We Do

We provide landowners with a full range of forestry services acting as project managers and advocates for accomplishing their property goals. Our relationships with these families most often span many years and their referrals have grown our business. We strongly believe in using written management plans as the basis for establishing these relationships and communicating goals.

In addition to our work with families, WONRS provides services to Metro Regional Government, OSU Research Forests, Clean Water Services, Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District and Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District. Our service to these agencies focuses on providing upland forest expertise to conduct forest health assessments, habitat restoration, wildfire mitigation, and project management.

Meet the Team

Owner

Ken Nygren

Ken Nygren brings a background in Forestry including a degree in forestry from the University of Idaho, where he gained experience working on a student logging crew. He worked for five years as a pole buyer, as well as working for the forest service doing sale prep. Before retiring from the Army in 2014, Ken managed training centers and the training land in Oregon for three years. He also spent seven years working as an Emergency Management Coordinator for Yamhill County before becoming a forestry consultant for the past eight years.

Ken enjoys hunting, camping and hiking while spending time in the outdoors. He also enjoys traveling when the opportunity arises as well as reading books. Ken has always considered his work in forestry as one of his favorite hobbies.

Kevin Young

Kevin Young has background working with the Forest Service, Forestry Consultants, and running his own Forestry Consulting Business. He has been working in the forestry industry for many years. He has experience working with all aspects of timber inventory and cruising such as planning, cruising and final analysis. Kevin has also worked in Timber Sales, gaining experience with layout, boundary and timber marking, road layout, boundary traversing by GPS or chain and compass, sales administration, post-sale analysis, and GIS mapping. He has worked with all aspects of forestry silviculture including reforestation, site restoration, long term planning of timber stands (intermediate treatments, insect and disease control, and rotation age planning).

Kevin’s hobbies include spending time outdoors, cooking and enjoying time spent with his family and dog.

Chris Machado

After receiving a B.S. in Physics, Chris joined the Nevada Conservation Corps working and leading conservation projects throughout the Great Basin and Sierra Nevada. Afterward, he worked as an arborist in Reno, Nevada where he solidified his love of working with trees. Since the pandemic, Chris has earned a an associate's degree in forest management from UCC and a graduate certificate in Urban Forestry from OSU.

Chris’s hobbies include hiking and exploring new places, reading fantasy and sci-fi, video/board games and playing the guitar.

Office Manager

Darcy Davis

Organizing events, planning family outings and actively participating in life keep Darcy busy when she is not in the office. At work, she enjoys meeting clients, working as a team, creating forms and learning new skills.

As a mom, sister, daughter, wife and friend she has cultivated a large network of people to care about. There is always a story to tell, a hug to share and a problem to solve.

Darcy was a client before she became a team member. The seedlings she planted in 2020 are now as tall as she is. Darcy is currently serving as the president of the Yamhill County Small Woodlands Association--a chapter of OSWA.
